Scholarship -
ACT-SO conducts annual academic and cultural Olympic competitions
for African-American students with expertise in the Humanities,
Performing Arts, Sciences, Visual Arts and Entrepreneurship.
All first place local winners in each of the 26 categories
will receive an all expense paid trip to compete in the National
ACT-SO
Competition in New York City. In keeping with the Olympic tradition,
winners on the national level will receive gold, silver and
bronze medals in addition to monetary awards. Grade: 9-12 Deadline: January

Rand "Anthem" Scholarship - 236 scholarships
awarded to best essays - top prize $2,000. Essays must be no
fewer than 600 and no more than 1,200 words in length. Visit

Foundation Scholarship - The AXA Achievement Scholarship
in association with U.S. News & World Report launches 52
scholarships of $10,000 and $25,000 to students across the
nation. The winners, known as AXA Achievers, are ethnically
and economically diverse, but share these qualities: ambition
and drive, determination to set and reach goals, respect for
self, family and community, and the ability to succeed in college.

King Scholars Program -
Burger King Scholars awards are $1,000 each and may be used for
educational expenses, such as tuition fees and books, during
the first year of college or post-secondary vocational/technical
school. For a student to qualify, he/she must be a high school
senior and a U.S. resident that meets our criteria. To obtain
informaion about our eligibility criteria, please visit our

Essay - TN Concrete Association Contest -
The Tennessee Concrete Association (TCA) is once again sponsoring
their annual essay contest. All entries in to the contest will
be judged by a panel of industry personnel and TCA will award
cash prizes. The state winner will go to compete at the national
level. CHS students have placed many years and won the national
award. The national winner will go on to Orlando, Florida to
the national convention. The essay is ot to exceed 600 words.
Essay idea starters: How concrete effects our environment,
the job market, etc. The impact of using concrete to build
homes, commercial buildings, bridges, or roads. Concrete's
benefits to society. How "green" is concrete? Grade: ages

a free customized on-line scholarship search. Parents will
want to help their student fill out the questionnaire as there
are questions pertaining to parents. Students may pick up an

Leaders Scholarship Program -
The Emerging Leaders Scholarship is a four-year renewable scholarship
that is now awarded to approximately fifty students each academic
year. Beyond the financial assistance, the Emerging Leaders
program provides training and opportunities designed to contribute
significantly to a balanced and well rounded college experience.
Students attend classes, workshops, lectures, perform community
service, and become engaged, content and confident University
of Memphis Tigers. The scholarship covers the base tuition.

Colonel's Scholars -
Applications are available online from December 1, 2008 to February
10, 2009. The KFC Colonel's Scholars Program was created in
2006 and is dedicated to assisting students with financial
need who plan to pursue a bachelor's degree at a public institution
within their legal state of residence and have a GPA of 2.75
and higher. Scholars may begin their college career by entering
into either a 2 or 4 year accredited, public school. Grade: Seniors Deadline: February
10, 2009 Memphis
Area Teachers' Credit Union Scholarship -
Four scholarships will be awarded and could amount to $10,000
(over four years) if recipients continue to meet eligibility
requirements. Qualifications include: seniors planking to pursue
a teaching career by entering an accredited teacher prep college
or university, members of MATCU or dependent children of MATCU
members, and minimum 3.0 GPA. Grade: Seniors Deadline: January
31, 2009 McKelvey
Scholarship (Entrepreneurial Scholarship) - This scholarship
is available to high school seniors who have demonstrated entrepreneurial
spirit by owning and operating their own business while in
high school. To qualify: 1) own your own business for one year
2) have at least 1 paid employee 3) graduate high school in
2009 4) go to any 4-year college or university in the 50 states.
60 scholarships will be awarded. Receive up to $10,000 per
year for 4 years. Grade: Seniors Deadline: January
25, 2009 National
Commission for Cooperative Education Scholarships -
200 $6,000 merit scholarships totaling $5,000,000. These merit
co-op scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors and
college transfer students who plan to participate in college
cooperative education at on e of our Partner Colleges and Universities
listed:Drexel University, Johnson & Wales University, Kettering
University, Northeastern University, C.W. Post Campus of Long
Island University, Pace University, Rochester Institute of
Technology, University of Cincinnati, University of Toledo,
and Wentworth Institute of Technology. Grade: Seniors Deadline: February
15, 2009 Nestle's
National "Very Best in Youth" Award -
Nestle has launched its seventh annual nation-wide award search.
The program honors young people who excel academically and
work hard to make their communities a better place. Winners
will be chosen by a panel of educators and business leaders
and be featured in a special award publication. Prizes include
an all-expense paid trip to the national awards ceremony in
Los Angeles and a $1,000 donation made to the charity of the
student's choice. Grade:ages

Young Entrepreneur Award -
Are you someone who dreams of being an entrepreneur or small-business
owner? Applicants need to submit a 1,000 word essay describing
your entrepreneurial experience, your involvement with small
business, or your involvement with clubs that encourage entrepreneurial
spirit. The Young Entrepreneur Award is $1,000. There are four
Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards for $5,000 each. One
NFIB Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award will issue an award
for $10,000. Grade: 12 Deadline: December
15, 2008 Profile
in Courage Award Scholarship - The John F. Kennedy
Library Foundation invites U.S. high school students to write
an original essay on the political courage of a U.S. elected
official. It takes courage to stand up for your beliefs. Some
elected officials risk their careers to do right by their community
and country. In Profiles in Courage, John F. Kennedy
described eight U.S. elected officials who demonstrated political
courage.
Here's your chance to write a new profile in courage. Winners
receive up to $5,000, a trip to Boston and will receive recognition
by Caroline Kennedy at the Presidential Library. Grade: 9-12 Deadline: January
10, 2009 SunTrust "Off
to College" Scholarship - RANDOM DRAWINGS.
High school seniors can win a $1,000 scholarship for their first year expenses
at a college or private career school. One winner will be chosen every
two weeks. Only one entry per person for each drawing, however students
can register after each drawing for the next scheduled drawing. No purchase
or transaction necessary to enter or win. Grade:Seniors Deadline:one

Education Lottery Scholarship -
Apply with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
application, available at www.fafsa.ed.gov The HOPE Scholarship
provides $4,000 for 4 year institutions or $2,000 for 2 year
institutions. Entering freshmen must have minimum of a 21
ACT (980 SAT) or an overall unsighted 3.0 GPA. More information

1 for spring or summer semesters. "Top
Ten List" Scholarship -
Five (5) students will be selected as $1,000 scholarship winners. Winners
will be chosen based on the quality of their written responses to the prompt:
"In 250 words or less, submit a 'Top Ten List' of the things you want to
accomplish in your lifetime." Grade:13 years
